TECHLAB®, Inc. announces FDA clearance of two new diagnostic tests.
The ASCA-CHEK is an ELISA for the detection of anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCA) as a marker for Crohn's disease. An estimated 1 million Americans suffer from inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which is comprised of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. These two distinct diseases require rapid, accurate diagnosis to optimize treatment; conventional methods may take years to confirm a diagnosis. Unlike serum ASCA tests, the ASCA-CHEK is designed for use on fecal specimens and cleared for use in adult and pediatric patients, making it an attractive, non-invasive alternative. The ASCA-CHEK provides a highly specific method for distinguishing Crohn's disease from other inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases.
The C. DIFF QUIK CHEK™ is a rapid membrane immunoassay for detecting Clostridium difficile common antigen (glutamate dehydrogenase or GDH) in fecal specimens. GDH is produced in both toxigenic and non-toxigenic strains so positive results should be verified with a toxin specific test. The C. DIFF QUIK CHEK™ has been designed as a screen to eliminate GDH-negative (and therefore toxin-negative) samples from further expensive and time-consuming testing.
